Tasting Notes
Vinous 85/100
The 2016 La Couspaude has a backward bouquet of grippy black fruit and a touch of chocolate mint chip. The palate is super-sweet and tarry on the entry, displaying dense black fruit, cloying sweetness and heavy-handed toasty oak on the finish.

Blackish crimson. Rather heady and opulent on the nose. Super-ripe! Very sweet palate entry – too sweet for refreshment factor, alas. Awkward, unknit, ungracious green tannins on the end.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2032

The 2016 La Couspaude had a slightly smudged bouquet: blueberry and redcurrant fruit, a light floral scent just behind. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth entry, quite gamey compared to others with possibly just a touch of brettanomyces towards the animally finish. Hopefully this will gain more clarity by the time it is bottled and then it may warrant a higher score.
Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035
