“A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre that’s raised in a combination of demi-muids and barriques, the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape la Folie boasts sumptuous aromas of vanilla and toasted almond, then adds in just enough cherry fruit to keep things lively. This full-bodied wine is rich and velvety in texture, undeniably woody, but it looks so, so promising.”

Montredon. 80% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre. From a parcel of 100-year-old vines known as ‘La Folie’ on the plateau of Mont Redon. Grapes are destemmed. Vinification at 26 °C in concrete tanks . Aged for 18 months, 90% in demi-muids and 10% in new barriques. Tasted blind. Healthy crimson. Very sweet start and some perceptible oak. Just slightly too heavy for comfort. A bit soupy.

Brilliant ruby-red. Powerful, mineral-accented raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by suggestions of incense, vanilla and pungent flowers. Supple and impressively concentrated, offering sweet red berry, cherry liqueur and lavender pastille flavors lifted by juicy acidity and a jolt of white pepper. Plush yet lively; finishes on an emphatic floral note, showing excellent clarity and fine-grained tannins that build slowly.
