Medium ruby. Aromas of blackberry, kirsch, minerals, espresso and mocha, all lifted by sweet oak. Lush, suave and lively, with nicely integrated acids giving this sweet, pliant wine good balance and vivacity. Finishes ripely tannic and quite long, with finishing notes of blackberry and licorice. A very classy vintage for this chateau, with no rough edges.
Dark crimson. Thick and sweet and winning with just a kick of oak. Dry but not drying on the finish and very lively. Rather glamorous…

From one of Fronsac’s finest properties, the dark ruby/purple-hued 2005 Haut-Carles offers notes of crushed rock/cold steel, spring flowers, and abundant quantities of blueberries and black raspberries. Medium-bodied, structured, and pure, purchasers would be well-advised to give this promising effort a few years of bottle age, and enjoy it over the following 12-15.
