Tasting Notes
Vinous 85-87
Good medium red. Aromas of black cherry, coffee, mocha and nutty oak. At once supple and penetrating, with chewy black fruit flavors that offer good verve. My enthusiasm was muted by some tough tannins and a hint of leathery rusticity.

Very dark purplish crimson. Not much nose. And pretty dry tannins but not overripe and the tannins are quite classically dry rather than drying on the palate. Needs quite a lot of time but reasonably honourable in intent.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020

Alain Moueix, who farms this vineyard biodynamically, has lowered yields considerably and tamed the rustic tannins and muscular style that had been trademarks for many decades. The medium to full-bodied 2005, a blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, offers beautiful notes of kirsch liqueur, loamy soil, spice box, licorice, and roasted herbs, substantial but sweet tannin, good acidity, and a long finish. It should evolve for two decades.
