The 2000 Amarone Mazzano is perhaps more structured than the Campolongo, yet it too exhibits fairly advanced leather, meatiness, iron and spice overtones. It does offer excellent persistence on the palate, but stylistically is an austere wine that lacks the sweetness of the Campolongo. It is best consumed over the next few years. Vinous 91

Dark ruby. Aromas of sweet black plum, cherry, grilled nuts, red meat and black pepper. Complex flavors of cherries macerated in alcohol and milk chocolate are nicely enlivened by hints of balsamic vinegar and espresso. Chewy tannins are still quite apparent and will need time to be absorbed. A powerful and complex red wine with an impressively long finish. [Ian D’Agata, 03/01/2006]
