(bottled in May of 2002) Full red-ruby. Spicy but rather strict aromas of black cherry and licorice. Sweet and fruity on entry, then quite tight and not showing much flesh today. Very closed now from the bottling. Finishes with a dominant tannic spine. Needs time.

The 1999 Barbaresco, a dark garnet, is sweet and spicy on the nose with tell-tale Nebbiolo notes of roses and anisette. Fresh, long, and mineral, its medium body and firm, slightly austere tannins indicate that a bit of bottle time will be useful. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015.
