The 1955 Barolo Riserva Monfortino is pure silk on the palate. Perfumed, gracious and beautifully lifted, the 1955 is as feminine as Monfortino gets. Hints of orange peel, spices and sweet tobacco linger on the close.

Pale orangey brown. Heady and leafy and wonderfully mature but not old. An edge of decay but still sweetness. Lovely and transparent and just a hint of something medicinal. Lots of richness. Would this have been chaptalised? Or doctored a little?
Anticipated maturity: 1970-2000
