2008 Ama Chianti

Castello di Ama was founded in the early 1970s, but it was not until the arrival of Marco Pallanti in 1982 that the estate’s true potential was realised. In 1993 he was joined by Lorenza Sebasti, daughter of one of the original founders, and together they have transformed the picturesque 75 hectares into one of Italy’s most innovative and high achieving wineries.

This parcel of 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva is fully resolved and drinking brilliantly now having really benefited from the cooler conditions of ’08 compared to richer vintages either side. The nose initially displays freshness with redcurrant, rhubarb and cherry before evolving in the glass to damson, cloves and dried herbs. Svelte and refreshing on the palate with perfectly mature, fine-grained tannins and a twist of spice. This is a terrific example of the genre that exudes poise and refinement. Most importantly however, it is really quite delicious.
